If you know me, you know that travel is how I recharge. It's where new color palettes, pattern ideas, and design sparks come from. I just spent 10 days exploring Sicily, and I came back with a full heart, a camera roll of textures and tile work, and a few too many ceramics tucked into my carry-on.
Here’s a little recap of the places that inspired me most—cities, meals, and stays that left a mark.

Cities That Left a Mark
Ortigia (Siracusa)
This tiny island off the coast of Siracusa might be one of the most magical places I’ve ever wandered through. Every alley seemed to glow at golden hour, and the crumbling facades had just the kind of lived-in beauty that makes my heart beat faster. The details here—carved balconies, hand-painted doors, linen curtains swaying in sea breezes—felt like a mood board come to life.
Where I stayed: Il Fuoco di Archimede – Casa Vacanza
A charming little apartment tucked in the heart of Ortigia. Super simple, in the best way. I loved being able to step outside and immediately be surrounded by cobblestone streets and espresso bars.
Favorite spot in Ortigia: BOATS
This little bar was a gem. Tucked along the waterfront, BOATS had a laid-back, creative energy—equal parts aperitivo hangout and design inspiration. Think natural textures, cool playlists, and a crowd that felt more local than touristy. It quickly became our go-to for sunset drinks and people-watching.

Ragusa
Ragusa is full of texture and quiet drama. The layered baroque architecture, terracotta rooftops, and sleepy piazzas offered a slower, more soulful energy. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down—and start sketching.
Where I stayed: 1768 Iblea Hotel
This boutique hotel is housed in a beautifully restored building right in the historic center. Vaulted ceilings, soft lighting, and a palette of warm neutrals made it feel like a natural extension of the Apartment F aesthetic.

Taormina
A little more polished, a little more glamorous—Taormina felt like a movie set in the best way. Bougainvillea spilling down staircases, cliffs diving into turquoise water, and views that stop you in your tracks. And yet, it still had the character and soul I’m always chasing.
Where I stayed: Palazzo Vecchio Taormina
Built into a 16th-century city wall, this 5-star boutique hotel mixes old-world charm with a fresh, elevated feel. The rooms were stunning—arched windows, antique details, and just the right amount of drama.

Favorite Meals (and Design Moments)
Taverna La Cialoma – Marzamemi
This seaside restaurant was a dream. Tables under string lights, waves in the background, and the kind of rustic, no-fuss seafood that makes you rethink how you cook at home. The walls were washed in sun and salt—like a palette I want to turn into a rug.
Camparia – Marzamemi
A former tuna processing plant turned stylish bar? I was instantly obsessed. The raw, industrial bones paired with vintage furniture, moody lighting, and oversized palms. A lesson in contrast I won’t soon forget.
Bisso Bistrot – Palermo
Bookshelves, cozy corners, and slow, soulful Sicilian food. It’s one of those places where you feel at home the moment you walk in—and where you start mentally taking notes on how to recreate the vibe.

What’s Coming Next
I came back with more than memories—I came back with ideas. Rugs inspired by Sicilian tiles, pillows in colors pulled from aged stucco and citrus groves, and a renewed appreciation for design that feels real and a little undone.
Stay tuned—there’s a Sicily-inspired collection in the works, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Ashley
